When I was flying out of NAS Fallon, NV as a Naval Aviator from 1974 to 1976, I arranged a top-billing gig for Bill to fly his aerial-demonstration there as a big part of the annual Fallon airshow, featuring the Blue Angels’ visit and demo, there at the base. I narrated/announced maneuver-by-maneuver for Bill, and the show was a great success — he stayed overnight at my house, along with Harry Eyerly, who also flew his Pitts in the airshow as a solo performer. I remembering the Blues being very gracious, and letting Bill have some of their 20-weight paraffin oil for his smoke system.
