Bill was a master at this gag, which is frought with difficulty and hard to pull off dependably. He’d even fake a missed attempt on the first try in order to build suspense. I rode along on one, kneeling on the front seat facing backwards and filming, first Bill, then the tire as it contacted the cartop platform.
